Isolated showers to hover over Southern California this week; light rain expected

After a dry start to the week, some rain is set to hit the region beginning Wednesday, weather officials said. According to the National Weather Service, a “dry day is on tap” for Tuesday, but an offshore front will move over the Central Coast before making its way to SoCal by Wednesday. “Rain chances will increase through the day Wednesday, then will wane away as the pattern turns showery into late Wednesday night and Thursday,” NWS said. Preliminary NWS forecasts indicate that most of the rain will fall in the Central Coast, with some communities in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties expected to see up to .2 inches. Further to the south and east, Ventura and Los Angeles counties will see less rain; projections range from .04 inches in Oxnard to .12 inches in Avalon on Catalina Island. There is a small threat of snow on the 5 Freeway near the Tejon Pass, NWS said. Indio Man Dies in Fiery Crash near Desert Hills Commercial Vehicle Enforcement FacilityBANNING, CA (November 28, 2023) – Bernardo Fajardo lost his life Saturday morning in a rear-end big-rig collision on westbound Interstate 10. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m., near the Desert Hills Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility.For reasons unknown, the driver of a vehicle rear-ended a big-rig. Upon impact, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. However, further circumstances leading up remain unclear.Medical personnel later pronounced the driver that hit the big-rig dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner later identified the deceased victim as 22-year-old Fajardo, of Indio.Emergency crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties.In this sorrowful time, the Sweet James team would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of Bernardo Fajardo. PALO ALTO — Police say a man had a gun pointed at him in Palo Alto early Tuesday morning when he confronted a pair of catalytic converter thieves.The incident occurred around 3:57 a.m. in the 1500 block of Louisa Court. Police say a woman heard a vehicle pull up to her home, and then heard a sawing noise. Otherwise, they don’t plan to be anything like the A’s, whose heartbroken fans they hope to support through the team’s painful departure for Las Vegas.The B’s promise to never leave town.The expansion independent club announced plans Tuesday to begin play in the Pioneer League come May of 2024, with their first home games set for July at Laney College. The intent is to keep baseball alive in Oakland for years to come.Major League Baseball team owners unanimously approved the Athletics’ move to Las Vegas earlier this month. A series of rowdy gatherings Sunday in the Central Valley cities of Delano and McFarland ended with a brawl inside a McDonald’s and a struggle between officers and suspects, the police said.The McFarland Police Department said it is investigating the use of force during the arrest of two people in the McDonald’s parking lot.The police press release gave this account of the events:1/ Officers from the California Highway Patrol and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office responded at 3:23 p.m. to Lake Woollomes, a reservoir amid agricultural fields east of Delano. Hundreds of vehicles had gathered there, and reckless driving was reported.2/ After being ousted from the Lake Woollomes area, the group moved to the Walmart in Delano.
